Spicy Puffed Rice (crunchy Girmit)
Spicy Puffed Rice, also known as Crunchy Girmit, is a popular street food snack from Uttara Karnataka Cuisine. It's a spicy and crunchy snack that is perfect for munching on any time of the day.
Ingredients
- 3 cups puffed rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup peanuts
- 1/4 cup roasted gram (putani)
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add peanuts and roasted gram, and sauté until they turn crispy.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and mix well.
- Add chopped tomatoes, tamarind paste, and cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
- Add puffed rice, salt, and mix well until the spices are evenly coated.
- Turn off the heat and sprinkle chaat masala and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.
- Crunchy Girmit is ready to be served.
