Spicy Rice And Meat Dish (meghalaya Jadoh)
Jadoh is a traditional rice and meat dish from the Meghalaya region of North East India. It is known for its bold flavors and aromatic spices, making it a popular choice for a hearty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 pound boneless meat (chicken, pork, or beef), diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3-4 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2-3 bay leaves
- 4-5 cloves
- 4-5 black peppercorns
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Wash the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, bay leaves, cloves, and black peppercorns. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and turmeric powder. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add the diced meat to the pot. Cook until the meat is browned on all sides.
- Once the meat is browned, add the soaked rice to the pot. Season with salt and mix well.
- Pour in enough water to cover the rice and meat mixture. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and remove the pot from the heat. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
