Ingredients

  • 500g squid, cleaned and cut into rings
  • 3 tablespoons sambal paste
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 red chilies, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon belacan (shrimp paste)
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic, sliced onion, and red chilies. Sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add the sambal paste and belacan, and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the squid rings, tamarind juice, sugar, and salt. Stir well to coat the squid with the sambal mixture.
  5. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the squid is cooked through.
  6. Once cooked, remove from heat and serve hot.
