Spicy Szechuan Dan Dan Tofu (四川担担豆腐)

Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 2 tbsp Szechuan peppercorns
  • 3 tbsp chili oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp black vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup peanuts, crushed (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and dry roast the Szechuan peppercorns for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from the pan and crush them using a mortar and pestle.
  2. In the same pan, heat the chili oil and add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until aromatic.
  3. Add the cubed tofu to the pan and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until lightly browned.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce and black vinegar, then add the crushed Szechuan peppercorns. Stir well to coat the tofu evenly.
  5. Garnish with chopped green onions and crushed peanuts, if desired. Serve hot.
