四川担担豆腐 (Spicy Szechuan Dan Dan Tofu) is a classic Hunan Cuisine dish known for its bold and spicy flavors. This recipe offers a delicious combination of tofu, Szechuan peppercorns, and chili oil, creating a mouthwatering and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp Szechuan peppercorns
- 3 tbsp chili oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp black vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 green onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup peanuts, crushed (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat a pan over medium heat and dry roast the Szechuan peppercorns for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from the pan and crush them using a mortar and pestle.
- In the same pan, heat the chili oil and add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until aromatic.
- Add the cubed tofu to the pan and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until lightly browned.
- Pour in the soy sauce and black vinegar, then add the crushed Szechuan peppercorns. Stir well to coat the tofu evenly.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and crushed peanuts, if desired. Serve hot.
