Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Szechuan peppercorns
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch until coated.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken and cook until golden and crispy. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in the same skillet. Add the bell peppers, green onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- In a small bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, ketchup, Szechuan peppercorns, and red pepper flakes. Pour the sauce over the vegetables in the skillet.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the chicken is heated through.
- Transfer the Spicy Szechuan Style Sweet and Sour Chicken to a serving dish and garnish with sesame seeds.
