Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind pulp
  • 4-5 dried red chilies
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add dried red chilies, curry leaves, onions, and ginger-garlic paste. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add the marinated chicken and cook until it turns golden brown.
  4. In a separate pan, dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Grind them into a fine powder.
  5. Add the ground spice mix, tamarind pulp, and coconut milk to the chicken. Mix well and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Once the chicken is cooked and the gravy thickens, remove from heat.
