Spicy Tofu (麻辣豆腐)

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons Sichuan peppercorns
  • 3 tablespoons chili oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. In a dry wok, toast the Sichuan peppercorns over medium heat until fragrant. Remove and crush them using a mortar and pestle.
  2. Heat the chili oil in the wok over medium heat. Add the garlic and green onions, and stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the wok and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and crushed Sichuan peppercorns.
  5. Pour in the broth and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve the spicy tofu hot, garnished with additional green onions if desired.
