Spinach And Cottage Cheese Curry (palak Paneer)
Palak Paneer is a classic Punjabi dish made with spinach and cottage cheese. It is a nutritious and flavorful curry that is perfect to be enjoyed with some warm naan or steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 2 bunches of fresh spinach, washed and chopped
- 200g cottage cheese (paneer), cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add grated ginger and minced garlic, and sauté for a minute.
- Now, add the pureed tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook until it wilts and becomes soft.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down. Then, blend it into a smooth puree using a blender or food processor.
- Transfer the pureed spinach back to the pan and add water. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Add the cubed cottage cheese and garam masala. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Palak Paneer is ready to be served hot with naan or rice.
