Palak Paneer is a classic Punjabi dish made with spinach and cottage cheese. It is a nutritious and flavorful curry that is perfect to be enjoyed with some warm naan or steamed rice.

Spinach And Cottage Cheese Curry (palak Paneer)

Ingredients

  • 2 bunches of fresh spinach, washed and chopped
  • 200g cottage cheese (paneer), cubed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add grated ginger and minced garlic, and sauté for a minute.
  3. Now, add the pureed tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  4. Add the chopped spinach and cook until it wilts and becomes soft.
  5. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down. Then, blend it into a smooth puree using a blender or food processor.
  6. Transfer the pureed spinach back to the pan and add water. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  7. Add the cubed cottage cheese and garam masala. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
  8. Palak Paneer is ready to be served hot with naan or rice.
