Spinach Pie, known as Plăcintă cu spanac in Moldovan cuisine, is a delicious savory pastry filled with a flavorful mixture of spinach, onions, and cheese. This traditional dish is perfect for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, or a tasty snack.
Ingredients
- 500g fresh spinach, chopped
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 200g feta cheese, crumbled
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 500g puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, mix together the chopped spinach, onions, feta cheese, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into two equal-sized rectangles.
- Place one rectangle of pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spoon the spinach mixture onto the pastry, leaving a border around the edges.
- Place the second rectangle of pastry on top and press the edges to seal.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg to create a golden crust.
- Make a few small slits on the top to allow steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Allow the spinach pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
