Squash Gratin (lyonnaise-style Gratin De Courge)

Ingredients
- 2 lbs butternut squash, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Arrange the sliced squash in a greased baking dish.
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, garlic, nutmeg, salt, and pepper over medium heat until it simmers.
- Pour the hot cream mixture over the squash and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
- Melt the butter in a small skillet, then add the breadcrumbs and cook until golden brown.
- Sprinkle the buttered breadcrumbs over the top of the squash and cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
