Squid Masala is a flavorful and aromatic dish from the Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine, known for its rich and spicy flavors. This dish is a perfect combination of tender squid and a blend of traditional Indian spices, creating a mouthwatering delicacy.

Squid Masala

Ingredients

  • 500g squid, cleaned and cut into rings
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Next, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Add the cleaned squid rings and cook for 5-7 minutes until the squid is tender.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice or Indian bread.
