Srpska Musaka (serbian-style Moussaka)
Srpska Musaka, or Serbian-style Moussaka, is a traditional dish from Serbian cuisine that features layers of potatoes, ground meat, and a creamy topping. It's a hearty and comforting meal that is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced tomatoes, paprika, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Top with the meat mixture. Add the remaining potatoes on top.
- In a bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and Parmesan cheese. Pour this mixture over the potatoes.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
