Srpski Proja (serbian Cornbread)
Srpski Proja, or Serbian Cornbread, is a traditional dish from Serbian cuisine that is simple to make and incredibly delicious. It is a savory cornbread that pairs perfectly with various stews, soups, or on its own as a snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the yogurt, oil, and eggs.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Stir in the crumbled feta cheese and chopped parsley.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the proja cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
