Steamed Dumplings (siomai)

Ingredients
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/4 lb shrimp, chopped
- 1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 24 pieces siomai or wonton wrappers
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, water chestnuts, green onions, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Place a siomai wrapper on a flat surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture onto the center of the wrapper.
- Gather the edges of the wrapper and gently pleat around the filling, leaving the top open. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Arrange the siomai in a single layer in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves.
- Steam the siomai over boiling water for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.
- Serve the steamed dumplings hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.
