Steamed Faroese Mussels (Dampar Músur)
Dampar Músur, or Steamed Faroese Mussels, is a traditional dish from the Faroe Islands that showcases the delicious flavors of fresh mussels combined with simple yet flavorful ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh Faroese mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup white wine
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer.
- Add the cleaned mussels to the pot and cover with a lid. Steam for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened.
- Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
