Steamed Faroese Mussels (Dampar Músur)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh Faroese mussels, cleaned and debearded
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened.
  3. Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the cleaned mussels to the pot and cover with a lid. Steam for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
