Steamed Lotus Leaf Rice (荷叶饭)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups glutinous rice
  • 200g pork belly, diced
  • 4 dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked and diced
  • 1 Chinese sausage, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 4 lotus leaves, soaked and cleaned
  • 4 slices of salted egg yolk

Instructions

  1. Wash the glutinous rice and soak it in water for 2 hours.
  2. Marinate the pork belly, shiitake mushrooms, and Chinese sausage with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, and white pepper for 30 minutes.
  3. Cut the lotus leaves into square pieces and blanch them in boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  4. Divide the glutinous rice and marinated ingredients into 4 portions.
  5. Place a piece of lotus leaf on a flat surface, then a slice of salted egg yolk, and a portion of glutinous rice mixture on top.
  6. Wrap the lotus leaf to form a tight package and secure with kitchen twine.
  7. Steam the wrapped lotus leaf rice for 1 hour.
  8. Unwrap and serve hot.
