Ingredients

  • 4 pieces of hilsa fish
  • 4 tablespoons mustard paste
  • 1 tablespoon mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 4-5 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Clean and wash the hilsa fish pieces. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, mix mustard paste, mustard oil, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and yogurt to make the mustard sauce.
  3. Coat the fish pieces with the mustard sauce and let them marinate for 15 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix mustard seeds, poppy seeds, and water to make a paste.
  5. Place the marinated fish pieces in a steaming dish and pour the mustard seed paste over them. Add slit green chilies on top.
  6. Cover the dish and steam the fish for about 20-25 minutes until cooked through.
  7. Once done, serve the Steamed Mustard Hilsa with Mustard Sauce hot with steamed rice.
