Steamed Rice Cake, also known as Kutsinta, is a popular Filipino Chinese delicacy that is soft, chewy, and slightly sweet. It is often enjoyed as a midday snack or dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups rice flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon lye water (potassium carbonate)
- 1/4 teaspoon orange food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the rice flour, brown sugar, and water. Mix until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the lye water and orange food coloring to the mixture. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the mixture into small molds or cupcake liners, filling them about 3/4 full.
- Steam the kutsinta over medium heat for 30 minutes or until set.
- Once cooked, remove from the steamer and let it cool before serving.
