Steamed Rice Dumplings (yomari)
Yomari is a traditional Nepalese delicacy, especially popular during the winter solstice festival of Yomari Punhi. These steamed rice dumplings are filled with sweetened sesame seeds and are a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of rice flour
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- Banana leaves for wrapping
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the rice flour and water to form a smooth dough.
- In a separate bowl, combine the sesame seeds and brown sugar for the filling.
- Take a small portion of the dough, flatten it, and place a spoonful of the filling in the center.
- Close the dough around the filling, shaping it into a small dumpling.
- Wrap the dumpling in a piece of banana leaf and secure it with a string.
- Steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
- Allow the yomari to cool slightly before serving.
