Steamed Shrimp With Citrus (shatkora Chingri Bhapa)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed citrus juice (lemon, lime, or shatkora)
  • 2-3 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the shrimp with mustard oil, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the shrimp evenly.
  2. Add the yogurt, citrus juice, green chilies, and chopped cilantro to the bowl. Mix gently to combine all the ingredients.
  3. Transfer the marinated shrimp mixture to a heatproof dish or a steaming basket.
  4. Prepare a steamer or a large pot with a steaming rack. Add enough water to create steam, but not so much that it touches the shrimp.
  5. Place the dish or steaming basket with the shrimp in the steamer or pot. Cover and steam for 10-12 minutes, or until the shrimp are cooked through.
  6. Once done, remove from the steamer and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
