Steamed Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Zhēng Bǎo Yàncài)

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil a large pot of water. Carefully remove the cabbage leaves and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool.
  2. In a bowl, mix the cooked rice, carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and vegetable broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Place a spoonful of the filling onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking in the sides to enclose the filling.
  4. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a steamer and steam for 30-35 minutes until the cabbage is tender.
  5. Serve the steamed stuffed cabbage rolls hot and enjoy!
