Steppe Shepherd's Pie (Buryat: Шөл)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg ground beef
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 3 large carrots, diced
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and diced carrots to the skillet and cook until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Season the mixture with salt and pepper, then transfer it to a baking dish.
  4. Boil the cubed potatoes until they are soft, then mash them with a little butter and milk to create a smooth potato topping.
  5. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat and vegetable mixture in the baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake the pie in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes, or until the potato topping is golden brown.
