Stone Soup, or Sopa da Pedra, is a traditional Portuguese dish that is both delicious and heartwarming. Legend has it that a hungry traveler made this soup by starting with just a stone and gradually convincing the locals to contribute ingredients, resulting in a flavorful and hearty meal.

Stone Soup (sopa Da Pedra)

Ingredients

  • 1 stone (cleaned and sterilized)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 potato, diced
  • 1 chorizo sausage, sliced
  • 1 can of white beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 cups of water

Instructions

  1. Place the stone in a large pot and add the water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, potato, chorizo, bay leaf, and paprika to the pot.
  4. Simmer for 45 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Stir in the white beans and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Remove the stone from the pot and discard.
  8. Serve the soup hot and enjoy!
