Stone Soup (sopa Da Pedra)
Stone Soup, or Sopa da Pedra, is a traditional Portuguese dish that is both delicious and heartwarming. Legend has it that a hungry traveler made this soup by starting with just a stone and gradually convincing the locals to contribute ingredients, resulting in a flavorful and hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 1 stone (cleaned and sterilized)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1 potato, diced
- 1 chorizo sausage, sliced
- 1 can of white beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 cups of water
Instructions
- Place the stone in a large pot and add the water.
- Bring the water to a boil over medium heat.
- Add the onion, garlic, carrot, potato, chorizo, bay leaf, and paprika to the pot.
- Simmer for 45 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
- Stir in the white beans and season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
- Remove the stone from the pot and discard.
- Serve the soup hot and enjoy!
