Strudel cu mere, or Aromanian Apple Strudel, is a delicious dessert that originates from the Aromanian cuisine. This sweet and flaky pastry filled with spiced apples is a perfect treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 8 sheets phyllo dough
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and chopped walnuts.
- Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Spread the apple filling along one long edge of the phyllo stack, leaving some space at the edges. Roll the phyllo and tuck in the edges to seal the filling.
- Place the strudel on a baking sheet and brush the top with more melted butter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the strudel is golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
