Strudel Cu Mere (aromanian Apple Strudel)

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 8 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and chopped walnuts.
  3. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
  4. Spread the apple filling along one long edge of the phyllo stack, leaving some space at the edges. Roll the phyllo and tuck in the edges to seal the filling.
  5. Place the strudel on a baking sheet and brush the top with more melted butter.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the strudel is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
