Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 cup rice
  • 500g ground meat (beef or pork)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried mint
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for a few minutes until they are pliable. Remove and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the rice, ground meat, onion, garlic, paprika, mint, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking in the sides to secure the filling.
  4. Heat some vegetable oil in a large pot and arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls in a single layer.
  5. Pour the crushed tomatoes over the rolls, add water to cover, and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 2 hours, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
