Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, also known as Romanian Sarmale, are a traditional dish in Eastern European cuisine. These delicious rolls are made with a flavorful filling wrapped in tender cabbage leaves and cooked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 cup rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken broth
Instructions
- Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5-7 minutes, then carefully remove the leaves and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix the ground pork, rice, chopped onion, tomato sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the pork mixture onto each cabbage leaf, then roll them up, tucking in the sides.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot, seam side down, and pour the chicken broth over them.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 1.5-2 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls hot, with a dollop of sour cream if desired.
