Stuffed Chili Fritters (spicy Hyderabadi Mirchi Bajji)
Stuffed Chili Fritters, also known as Spicy Hyderabadi Mirchi Bajji, are a popular street food in Hyderabad, India. These fritters are made by stuffing large green chilies with a spicy and tangy filling, dipping them in a gram flour batter, and deep-frying until crispy. Ingredients
- 6 large green chilies
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
- For the stuffing:
- 2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon amchur (dry mango powder)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Make a lengthwise slit in each green chili and remove the seeds.
- In a bowl, mix together all the stuffing ingredients.
- Stuff the green chilies with the prepared filling and set aside.
- In another bowl, prepare the batter by mixing gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, chaat masala, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add water to make a smooth, thick batter.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
- Dip each stuffed chili into the batter, ensuring it is well coated, and carefully place it in the hot oil.
- Fry the fritters until they are golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve the stuffed chili fritters hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
