Stuffed Grape Leaves (ورق عنب محشي)
ورق عنب محشي (Stuffed Grape Leaves) is a traditional Palestinian dish that is popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. It consists of grape leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice, herbs, and spices, creating a delicious and aromatic dish.
Ingredients
- 1 jar of grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup of short-grain rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup of fresh mint, chopped
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1/4 cup of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of ground allspice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the rice, onion, tomato, parsley, mint, olive oil, lemon juice, allspice, salt, and pepper.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a small spoonful of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the bottom of the leaf over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll it up into a small cylinder.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and rice mixture.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer.
- Add enough water to cover the grape leaves, then place a plate on top to keep them submerged.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 45 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
- Remove from heat and let the grape leaves cool before serving.
