Stuffed Grape Leaves (jordanian Dawali)
Stuffed grape leaves, also known as Jordanian Dawali, are a popular dish in Eastern Arabian cuisine. These delicious appetizers are made by wrapping a flavorful rice and herb filling in tender grape leaves.
Ingredients
- 1 jar grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup long-grain rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the rice, onion, parsley, mint, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Trim the stem. Place a small amount of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly into a small cylinder.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and rice mixture.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer.
- Add enough water to cover the grape leaves. Place a plate on top of the grape leaves to keep them submerged.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 45 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
- Remove the stuffed grape leaves from the pot and let them cool before serving.
