Stuffed Grape Leaves (Sarma me Gjethë Dardhe)
Sarma me Gjethë Dardhe, or Stuffed Grape Leaves, is a traditional dish from Kosovan cuisine. These flavorful stuffed grape leaves are a popular appetizer or main dish, perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 jar grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lemon, sliced
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the rice, chopped onion, dill, olive oil, tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a small amount of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the bottom of the leaf over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and rice mixture.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, and layer them tightly in the pot.
- Place the sliced lemon over the grape leaves and add enough water to cover them.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 1 hour.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and let the grape leaves cool in the pot before serving.
