Styrian Root Meat, or Steirisches Wurzelfleisch, is a traditional Austrian dish that features tender meat cooked with root vegetables and served with a flavorful broth.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef chuck, cut into chunks
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 3 parsnips, sliced
- 4 potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Water
Instructions
- Place the beef chunks, onions, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, bay leaves, and caraway seeds in a large pot.
- Season with salt and pepper, then add enough water to cover all the ingredients.
- Cover the pot and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
- Remove the bay leaves and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the Styrian Root Meat hot, with some of the cooking broth.
