Ingredients

  • 500g smoked herring fillets, skinless and boneless
  • 1kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 200ml sour cream
  • 100ml heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  3. Arrange half of the sliced onions on top of the potatoes.
  4. Place half of the smoked herring fillets on top of the onions.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and smoked herring.
  6. In a bowl, mix the sour cream, heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
  7. Pour the cream mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
  8. Dot the top of the casserole with butter.
  9. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  11. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
