Sultan's Lamb Curry (Hünkâr Kuzu Körili)
Hünkâr Kuzu Körili, also known as Sultan's Lamb Curry, is a rich and flavorful dish from Turkish cuisine. This aromatic curry is made with tender lamb, a blend of traditional spices, and creamy yogurt, creating a dish fit for royalty.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (700g) lamb, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup (240g) plain yogurt
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Add the lamb cubes to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the pot and let the curry simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until the lamb is tender.
- Once the lamb is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and stir in the plain yogurt.
- Return the pot to low heat and let the curry simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- Serve the Sultan's Lamb Curry hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
