Sumac Lemonade (عصير السماق بالليمون)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sumac
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sumac, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Strain the sumac syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher.
  3. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher. Stir well to combine.
  4. Refrigerate the sumac lemonade for at least 1 hour to chill.
  5. Serve the sumac lemonade over ice cubes and garnish with lemon slices, if desired.
