Suman
Suman is a traditional Filipino rice cake made from glutinous rice and coconut milk, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to perfection.
Ingredients
- 2 cups glutinous rice
- 1 1/2 cups coconut milk
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Banana leaves, for wrapping
Instructions
- Rinse the glutinous rice and place it in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, mix the coconut milk, sugar, and salt.
- Pour the coconut milk mixture into the bowl of rice and stir until well combined.
- Cut the banana leaves into rectangles, then briefly pass them over an open flame to make them pliable.
- Place a portion of the rice mixture onto each banana leaf, then fold and secure the ends to form a cylindrical shape.
- Steam the suman for 45-60 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked.
- Let the suman cool before unwrapping and serving.
