Suomalainen Sienipiirakka (finnish Mushroom Pie)
Suomalainen sienipiirakka, or Finnish Mushroom Pie, is a traditional Nordic dish that is perfect for a cozy dinner. This savory pie is filled with earthy mushrooms and creamy filling, all encased in a flaky pastry crust.
Ingredients
- 500g mixed mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they release their liquid and become golden brown.
- Pour in the vegetable broth and heavy cream, and simmer until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Roll out the puff pastry and line a pie dish with it. Trim off any excess pastry.
- Pour the mushroom filling into the pastry-lined dish.
- Place the pie in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
