Ingredients

  • 1 cup short-grain rice
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the rice and milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add the sugar and salt to the pot and continue to simmer for another 20-30 minutes, or until the rice is very soft and the mixture has thickened.
  3. Stir in the rose water and remove the pot from the heat.
  4. Divide the sutlach among serving bowls and garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios.
  5. Let the sutlach cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
