Svensk Glögg, or Swedish Glogg, is a traditional Scandinavian mulled wine that is perfect for warming up during the winter months. This aromatic and flavorful beverage is a staple at Christmas markets and holiday gatherings throughout Sweden.

Swedish Glogg (Svensk Glögg)

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 1 cup of brandy
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 10 cardamom pods
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • 1/2 cup of blanched almonds

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the red wine, brandy, sugar, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, and orange slices.
  2. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour. Do not let it boil.
  3. After 1 hour, remove the pot from the heat and strain the mixture to remove the spices and orange slices.
  4. Stir in the raisins and blanched almonds.
  5. Serve the Swedish Glogg hot in mugs or heatproof glasses.
