Sweet and Sour Mango Curry is a popular South Indian dish that combines the sweetness of ripe mangoes with the tanginess of tamarind, creating a delicious and flavorful curry. This vegetarian dish is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 cup tamarind pulp
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add tamarind pulp and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the cubed mangoes and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the mangoes are soft and the curry thickens.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
