Sweet and Sour Sary-Moinok (Сары-Моинок)
Сары-Моинок (Sweet and Sour Sary-Moinok) is a traditional Kyrgyz dish that combines the flavors of sweet and sour in a hearty and satisfying meal. This dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 500g lamb, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 3 potatoes, diced
- 1 cup apricots, pitted and halved
- 1 cup prunes, pitted
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the lamb and onions, and cook until the lamb is browned and the onions are soft.
- Add the carrots, potatoes, apricots, and prunes to the pot. Stir well to combine.
- In a small bowl, mix the vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the ingredients in the pot.
- Cover the pot and let the dish simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Once the meat and vegetables are tender, remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
