Ingredients

  • 500g spare ribs, cut into individual pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Coat the spare ribs in cornstarch.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat and brown the spare ribs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, and water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Add the bell peppers, onion, garlic, and ginger to the pan. Cook until the vegetables are slightly softened.
  5. Return the spare ribs to the pan and coat them in the sweet and sour sauce. Simmer for 30 minutes, or until the spare ribs are tender.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
