Sweet Cheese Dumplings (Găluște cu Brânză Dulce)
Găluște cu Brânză Dulce, or Sweet Cheese Dumplings, are a traditional Romanian dessert that is both delicious and easy to make. These dumplings are made with a sweet cheese filling and are typically served with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of sugar on top.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups farmer's cheese
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup sour cream (for serving)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the farmer's cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the cheese mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into balls. Press your thumb into the center of each ball to create an indentation, then fill it with a small amount of the cheese mixture. Close the dough around the filling, shaping it into a smooth ball.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Drop the dumplings into the boiling water and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and roll them in the breadcrumbs.
- Serve the sweet cheese dumplings with a dollop of sour cream on top.
