Sweet Saffron Bread (sheermal)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in warm milk for 10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  3. Add the saffron-infused milk and ghee to the dry ingredients and mix to form a dough.
  4. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  7. Flatten each ball into a disc and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Cover and let them rest for 15 minutes.
  9. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Remove from the skillet and serve warm.
