Swiss Chard Gratin (lyonnaise-style Gratin De Blettes)

Swiss Chard Gratin, also known as Gratin de Blettes, is a classic dish from Lyonnaise cuisine. This creamy and flavorful gratin is made with Swiss chard, eggs, and cheese, and is a comforting and satisfying side dish or main course.

Swiss Chard Gratin (lyonnaise-style Gratin De Blettes)

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard, stems removed and leaves chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  2. Add the chopped Swiss chard leaves to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Stir in half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
  4. Spread the cooked Swiss chard mixture in a greased baking dish. Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the top.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining grated Gruyère cheese over the top of the gratin.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and the gratin is set.
  7. Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving.
