Swiss Chard Gratin (lyonnaise-style Gratin De Blettes)
Swiss Chard Gratin, also known as Gratin de Blettes, is a classic dish from Lyonnaise cuisine. This creamy and flavorful gratin is made with Swiss chard, eggs, and cheese, and is a comforting and satisfying side dish or main course.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch Swiss chard, stems removed and leaves chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Add the chopped Swiss chard leaves to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. Stir in half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
- Spread the cooked Swiss chard mixture in a greased baking dish. Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the top.
- Sprinkle the remaining grated Gruyère cheese over the top of the gratin.
- Bake in the preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and the gratin is set.
- Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving.
