Swiss Cheese Fondue (Käsefondue)
Käsefondue, also known as Swiss Cheese Fondue, is a classic dish from Northern European cuisine. It's a communal dish where people dip pieces of bread into a pot of melted cheese. It's perfect for a cozy gathering with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 400g Gruyère cheese, grated
- 400g Emmental cheese, grated
- 1 garlic clove, halved
- 1 1/2 cups dry white wine
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cubed bread, for dipping
Instructions
- Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the cut sides of the garlic clove.
- Pour the wine and lemon juice into the pot and heat over medium heat.
- Toss the grated cheeses with the flour and add to the pot, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
- Stir in the nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Place the pot over a fondue burner and serve with cubed bread for dipping.
