Swiss Chocolate Hazelnut Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Fold in the chopped hazelnuts and chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate hazelnut glaze. In a small saucepan, heat the Nutella and heavy cream over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  7. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Drizzle the chocolate hazelnut glaze over the cooled cake. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
