Sylheti Bhuna Beef (Sylheti-style Spicy Beef Curry)
Sylheti-style Spicy Beef Curry, also known as Sylheti Bhuna Beef, is a popular dish from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. This flavorful and aromatic curry is made with tender beef, a blend of aromatic spices, and slow cooking to develop rich flavors.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb beef, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the pureed tomatoes, turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Whisk the yogurt and garam masala together, then add it to the pan. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
