Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  2. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in the pureed tomatoes, turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Whisk the yogurt and garam masala together, then add it to the pan. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
