Ingredients
- 1.5 lb (700g) chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 green cardamom pods
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pan and add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, and cardamom pods. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are sealed and browned.
- Next, add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Whisk the yogurt and pour it into the pan. Stir well to combine.
- Cover and cook the chicken on low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
