Sylheti Bhuna Duck (Sylheti-style Spicy Duck Curry)
Sylheti-style Spicy Duck Curry, also known as Sylheti Bhuna Duck, is a traditional dish from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. This rich and flavorful curry is made with tender duck pieces cooked in a spicy and aromatic gravy, perfect for a special occasion or a festive meal.
Ingredients
- 1 whole duck, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons oil
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot and add the chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Now, add the duck pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the turmeric, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for a couple of minutes.
- Pour in the tomato puree and yogurt. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add salt to taste and enough water to cover the duck pieces. Cover the pot and simmer for 1.5-2 hours until the duck is tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
