Sylheti-style Spicy Duck Curry, also known as Sylheti Bhuna Duck, is a traditional dish from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. This rich and flavorful curry is made with tender duck pieces cooked in a spicy and aromatic gravy, perfect for a special occasion or a festive meal.

Sylheti Bhuna Duck (Sylheti-style Spicy Duck Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 whole duck, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and add the chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
  2. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Now, add the duck pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the turmeric, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook for a couple of minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and yogurt. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add salt to taste and enough water to cover the duck pieces. Cover the pot and simmer for 1.5-2 hours until the duck is tender.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
