Sylheti-style Spicy Goat Curry, also known as Sylheti Bhuna Goat, is a traditional dish from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. This flavorful and aromatic curry is made with tender goat meat and a blend of aromatic spices, creating a rich and hearty dish that is perfect for special occasions or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 kg goat meat, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2-inch piece ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/4 cup mustard oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat mustard oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the goat meat and cook until it changes color.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
- Add the yogurt, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Cover the pan and cook on low heat for about 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally, until the meat is tender and the oil separates from the masala.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
